This policy explains what information the Meal Buddy Pro app for iPhone and iPad and the mealbuddy.app website collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Meal Buddy is made by Connor AI LLC (“Meal Buddy”, “we”, “us”). Questions? Email connorwsk@connoraillc.com.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details. You can use Meal Buddy as a guest without giving us an email address. If you save your account, we store your email address, and your name if you sign in with Apple or Google and choose to share it. If you sign in with email, your password is stored by Firebase Authentication in hashed form. We never see it.
  • Your goal and body details. Your goal (lose, maintain or gain) and pace, current and goal weight, height, age, sex and activity level, plus the calorie and macro targets we calculate from them. If you turn on GLP-1 mode, we store that you take a GLP-1 medication and the GLP-1 settings you choose, such as your appetite, meals a day, shot day and gentle days. We never ask for the name or dose of your medication. We also store the weight entries you log.
  • Food preferences. Your diet (omnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian or vegan), allergies and restrictions, foods you don’t like, lifestyle, cuisines and flavors, budget, grocery store, recipe complexity, servings, and the items you add to My Fridge.
  • What you plan and log. Your meal plans, the foods and meals you log with their calories and macros, saved and custom meals and ingredients, recipes you save, and your grocery list progress.
  • AI requests. What you type into AI features, such as “high-protein tacos under 600 calories”.
  • Photos. Photos you add to your saved meals. Meal Buddy uses your camera only when you scan a barcode or take a photo, and your photo library only when you pick a photo.
  • Messages to us. Anything you send us by email, such as a support question.

Information collected automatically

  • App activity. The setup steps you complete and the answers you give, what happens on the subscription screen (for example, which plan you picked and whether a purchase went through), which tips you’ve seen, how many AI requests you’ve made, which recipes you’ve already been shown, and your device platform (iOS or Android). This is stored with your account in our own database. Some activity, such as which recipes you’ve opened in Discover, stays only on your device.
  • Technical data. Like any internet service, our servers and service providers receive your IP address and basic device information when the app connects to them.

The app doesn’t include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and it doesn’t access your device’s advertising identifier or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Information from other companies

  • Sign in with Apple or Google. Your email address and name, if you choose to share them. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email address.
  • App Store purchases. Apple tells us, through RevenueCat, your subscription status, plan, and trial and renewal dates. We never receive your payment card details.

2. How we use information

  • To run Meal Buddy. Calculating your targets, building and adjusting your meal plan, writing recipes, building your grocery list, and showing your progress.
  • To run your subscription. Checking purchases, unlocking Meal Buddy Pro, and reminding you before your free trial ends if you ask for a reminder. The reminder is a notification scheduled on your device.
  • To keep your account in sync across your devices once you save your account.
  • To improve Meal Buddy. Seeing where people get stuck during setup or checkout, fixing bugs, and deciding what to build next.
  • To keep Meal Buddy safe. Preventing fraud and abuse, enforcing our Terms of Use, and meeting legal obligations.
  • To answer you when you contact us.

We don’t sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles. We don’t make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects based only on automated processing.

3. Health information

Some information you share with Meal Buddy is health information. This includes your weight and weight goals, height, age, sex, activity level, calorie and macro targets, food logs, allergies, and whether you take a GLP-1 medication. This section is also our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

  • Why we collect it. To work out your targets and plan, adjust and track your meals. We collect it from you, and we calculate your targets from what you enter.
  • How we use it. To provide and personalize Meal Buddy, and, in our own records of how people move through setup, to improve it. We don’t sell it or use it for advertising.
  • Who we share it with. Only the service providers in section 5 that run the features you use. For example, your calorie target, diet and allergies go to OpenAI when you ask for a new recipe, and your account data is stored with Google Firebase.
  • Your control. You can change or remove it anytime in Settings, turn off GLP-1 mode, or delete your account. You can also ask us to confirm what health information we have about you, send you a copy, delete it, or stop using it, by emailing connorwsk@connoraillc.com. We’ll respond within 45 days.

4. AI features

Meal Buddy uses OpenAI to write recipes and meal ideas. When you use these features, our servers send OpenAI what it needs to write the recipe. That includes the meal type, your goal and calorie and macro targets, your diet, allergies, foods you don’t like and other food preferences, your GLP-1 mode settings, ingredients from My Fridge, your recent meals (so you don’t get repeats), and the text of your request. We don’t send your name or email address.

Under OpenAI’s API terms, this data isn’t used to train OpenAI’s models, and it’s kept for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse. AI-written recipes can contain mistakes, so please read the recipe and nutrition section of our Terms.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run Meal Buddy, and only for the purposes described here. Their contracts with us limit how they can use it.

Our servers also look up nutrition in USDA FoodData Central using food names only, with no personal information. Some recipe cards without their own photo show stock images from Unsplash, which receives your IP address when the image loads, like any website.

Amazon. If you tap Amazon on a grocery item, the Amazon app or website opens with a search for that item. From there, Amazon handles your information under its own privacy policy. These links include our Amazon Associates tag, so Amazon knows the visit came from Meal Buddy.

Other disclosures. We may disclose information if the law or valid legal process requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, ourselves or others. If Meal Buddy is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that deal, and this policy will continue to apply to it.

6. How long we keep information

  • While your account exists, we keep your information so Meal Buddy works.
  • When you delete your account in Settings → Delete account, we delete your account and the data linked to it within 30 days. Copies in backups are overwritten on their normal schedule.
  • Purchase records. Apple and RevenueCat keep transaction records for accounting and tax purposes. Email us if you want us to ask RevenueCat to delete your customer record.
  • Guest accounts. If you use Meal Buddy as a guest, delete your account in Settings before you delete the app. Once the app is gone, there’s no way to connect a guest account back to you.
  • Emails to us are kept as long as we need them to help you, and then deleted.

7. How we protect information

Information is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers, and Google Cloud encrypts it at rest. Our database rules let only your account read and change your data, and photos you add are stored at private, hard-to-guess links that we don’t publish. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we’ll tell you as the law requires.

8. Your choices and rights

In the app

  • Edit your goal, body details and food preferences in Settings.
  • Turn GLP-1 mode on or off in Settings → GLP-1 mode.
  • Remove photos, saved meals and logged foods whenever you like.
  • Turn off notifications in your iPhone’s Settings.
  • Delete your account in Settings → Delete account.

By email

Email connorwsk@connoraillc.com to get a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or ask a question. We’ll confirm the request comes from you, for example by replying to the email address on your account, and respond within 30 days, or 45 days where the law allows. Saying no to something we ask won’t affect the service you get.

United States

Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington and other states, you may have the right to know about, access, correct, delete or get a portable copy of your personal information. You may also have the right to opt out of its sale, targeted advertising and certain profiling, which Meal Buddy doesn’t do. You can use an authorized agent to make a request for you. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer. If we turn down the appeal, you can contact your state attorney general.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland

We process your information because we need it to provide Meal Buddy under our Terms. We process health information, such as your weight and GLP-1 medication status, based on your explicit consent, which you give when you enter it. We may also process information for our legitimate interests in keeping Meal Buddy secure and improving it, and to meet legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to and port your information, and to withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing doesn’t affect processing that already happened. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Meal Buddy is based in the United States, so your information is processed there. Our providers protect transfers with safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

9. Children

Meal Buddy isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, if you’re under the age at which you can agree to data processing in your country (up to 16), you need a parent or guardian’s permission to use Meal Buddy. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

10. The mealbuddy.app website

Our website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Our web host, Google Firebase Hosting, keeps basic request logs, including IP addresses, to run and secure the site.

11. Changes to this policy

When we update this policy, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
